Some days feel bigger than yourself. Days when work, sport, and emotion come together. For Emons Cargo 2WIN, June 4th and 5th are such moments. Once again, we will take part in Alpe d’HuZes – an event centered around strength, unity, and hope.
Climbing Together
Seven Emons colleagues will take on the climb this year: Tonnie Stoffelen, Daan Emons, Perry Houtepen, Marcel Wouterse, Marcel van de Werf, William Emons, and Frits Janssen. Walking or cycling up an average incline of 10%, with peaks up to 12%, they each bring their own stories and motivations.
Everyone has a reason. A partner, a friend, a parent, a colleague. And at the summit, where candles with names of loved ones line the road, it all comes together. As they say at the top: ‘You can’t get closer to heaven.’
Emons Cargo 2WIN’s Contribution
For 10 years, Emons has played a vital logistical role in the event. One of our 2WIN trailers joins the convoy delivering everything needed up the mountain – from food and tents to medical supplies. For one day, the area becomes a small piece of the Netherlands, complete with Dutch emergency services.
What began with one truck has grown into a tradition. When William’s father, Kees Emons, stepped back, Tonnie took over. “I thought I’d give it a try. What I found was a warm, close-knit community.”
Training and Dedication
Tonnie trains three times a week on the treadmill, simulating the climb. “You need to be fit. This isn’t a casual walk; it’s a half-marathon uphill.”
The logistics team is away for over a week. Many take time off; all volunteer unpaid. All to support the Dutch Cancer Society. Each participant raises at least €2,500. Together, the event raises 15 to 20 million euros annually.
Respect for the Mountain
Everything that goes up, comes down – including waste. The mountain is left exactly as it was. It’s a symbol of respect, both for nature and the journey.
United in Purpose
For Emons Cargo 2WIN, Alpe d’HuZes is more than an event. It’s a tribute to resilience, love, and human connection. We’re proud of our colleagues, on and off the mountain. Together we climb – for those who fight, for those we miss, and for those who still hope.
See you at the top. 💛
