The brown paper bags of fashion chain Primark have taken the Dutch shopping streets by storm.

The brown paper bags of fashion chain Primark have taken the Dutch shopping streets by storm. Among other things, the fashion chain sells clothing and decorative items, all of which must be transported to shops and distribution centres. Primark has been working with Emons Cargo for this for a number of years. The relationship has grown over that time, says Ian Hicks, head of transport for Primark. Hicks is responsible for the strategic development of the logistic operation which covers the 8 distribution centres of Primark. Ian Hicks: “While our distribution network grew successfully, Emons Cargo has supported our transport operations throughout Europe with their 2WIN concept.”

2=3

Primark was founded in Dublin (Ireland) in 1969 and is now one of Europe’s largest retailers. The chain has 360 stores in eleven countries. It is important to supply all shops and distribution centres efficiently. The 2WIN concept is used for longer distances and high-volume lanes. Ian Hicks: “Because of the size of our network, it is important that we think of fewer and fuller kilometres. Using Emons Cargo’s double-deck trailer means we can transport larger volumes with fewer trailers.” After all, a 2WIN trailer can carry 64% more than a regular trailer. Two 2WIN trailers replace three regular trailers. This provides a major environmental benefit, which is in line with the values that Primark wants to promote.  “At Primark, we are committed to reducing our business impact on the environment. The way that we transport our products and the size of our network means that we are constantly thinking of new ways to support our environmental strategy,” Hicks states.

Safety

‘Safety’, like many other companies, is a high priority for Primark. Hicks: “We have come to expect this from our partners.” Emons Cargo also greatly values safety. Loading and unloading are done according to fixed procedures, always with a view to operating safely. In addition, a 2WIN is a ‘hard boxed’ trailer, which means that the products remain safe, clean and dry.

It is important that as our business grows, we ensure that safety and the environment remain paramount. The 2WIN concept supports this.

Open and honest

The Operational Account Management department has daily contact with Primark to prevent or solve any problems.

We believe in collaborations with open, honest communication with all our carriers. Emons Cargo’s approach means that we have a direct relationship with the team. This contributes to our ability to work as an efficient and agile supply chain. We have a network that continues to develop and we believe that our partners play an important role in our future. A strong relationship is decisive for our success and the success of our partners.
