At Emons Cargo 2WIN, we are proud to announce an outstanding achievement. We saved, in collaboration with our client DE-VAU-GE, almost one and a halfmillion kilograms of CO2 in 2023.
DE-VAU-GE is one of the largest manufacturers of breakfast cereals, muesli and bars in Europe. This milestone signs our joint commitment to sustainability and innovation.
Power 2WIN
This achievement is a testament to the remarkable capabilities of our 2WIN trailers. Our trailers have played a crucial role in DE-VAU-GE’s transportation operations in Lüneburg and Tangernumde, Germany. 2WIN are double-deck trailers that can transport up to 54 euro pallets in a single trip, providing a staggering 64% increase in cargo volume compared to standard trailers. This expanded capacity has led to a substantial reduction in the number of trips needed to move goods. This results in both fuel savings and a remarkable reduction in CO2 emissions.
Of course, this success is also due to DE-VAU-GE’s commitment to integrating our 2WIN solution into their supply chain. We understand the significant effort involved in such an undertaking. That is why we want to extend our sincere appreciation to DE-VAU-GE for their forward-thinking decision. This accomplishment is not only a win for us and DE-VAU-GE but also a positive step toward a more sustainable future for our planet.
Our joint success is the result of a continuous improvement program on optimizing cubefill for FTL loads in 2WIN trailers toward the United Kingdom. The program started with the optimization of the basic pallet dimension to 120x80x180. DE-VAU-GE modified the ordering pattern within its own and its customers’ supply chain to increase the quantity of goods per pallet.
Following the purchase of 40 new trailers, Emons Cargo only used these 2WINs with a full 54-pallet loading capacity for DE-VAU-GE deliveries adding to the maximization of goods per pallet also the number of pallets per trip. The cubefill of the 2WIN trailers was maximized for loads up to 93m3 per trip.
CO2 Savings Calculations
To monitor our environmental impact, we perform a monthly assessment of our CO2 reductions for the routes where our trailers operate. We rely on BigMile, an ISO 14083-certified online platform that evaluates CO2 emissions using various data points such as geographical location, fuel specifications, consumption rates, transportation mode, and more. The outcomes provide precise CO2 emission figures for each journey, per pallet, and per pallet per kilometre travelled.
Stijn van den Bogart, our Commercial Manager, expressed his pride in this accomplishment: “We are very pleased with the CO2 savings we achieved for DE-VAU-GE. 2WIN trailers embody our commitment to eco-friendly logistics solutions and efficiency. The calculation of the CO2 emissions we save with our trucks is something we have been doing already for years and in view of the upcoming CSRD legislation we are happy to be ready to face it both for ourselves and our customers.””
Sustainability Journey
At Emons Cargo 2WIN, our dedication to sustainable road freight transportation extends beyond our current efforts. We are actively engaged in several exciting initiatives aimed at further reducing CO2 emissions. These include investigating the possibility offered by intermodality for some of our operations, introducing electric trucks into our vehicle fleet, and further extending the use of Bio-LGN-powered tractor units within our fleet and solar panels on our trailers.
A Pledge to Sustainability
Our commitment to being a leader in sustainable road freight transportation remains unwavering. We will continue to take steps to reduce our environmental impact while helping clients like DE-VAU-GE improve their carbon footprint and their efficiency.
